Swan Haven School Programs

School programs have always been a large part of spring activities at Swan Haven. Hundreds of school children make the trip with their classes to participate in activities and games, to give them some hands-on learning in a spectacular outdoor classroom. Each year interpreters receive school groups between grades 2 and 6, and a child visiting year after year learns something new each time.

Why bring my class to Swan Haven?
Students are treated to the sights and sounds of spring, complemented by fun activities geared towards appreciating and understanding the spring migration of swans and other birds as they reset and feed at M'Clintock Bay. The hands-on learning provided by Swan Haven Interpreters engages students in learning about birds and their habitat.
Who can book school programs?
Teachers can be bring classes from grades 2 to 6 in either French
or English. Classes can combine with a close grade to share a bus.
The Wildlife Viewing Program has worked with teachers to develop activities that follow the curriculum guidelines of these grades. Ideally, a student would return to Swan Haven year after year, always learning something new about swans and other waterbirds.
Where do school programs take place?
All interpretive programs during April take place at Swan Haven Interpretation Centre at M'Clintock Bay on Marsh Lake - about 40 km south of Whitehorse.
When can I bring my class?
Interpretive school programs run during the last 3 weeks of April on
Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. The morning and afternoon time slots allow enough time for students to return to
Whitehorse for the end of school. Special times may be accommodated for school travelling from the Communities, including
Atlin, Skagway, and Haines. Once the schedule is full, no new times will be available. Book early to avoid disappointment.

14th Annual Student Art Contest
| Who? | Grade 2 to 6 Students |
| Where? | Art will be displayed at the Swan Haven Interpretation Centre during the month of April. |
| When? | Entry deadline is 4:00 pm on Friday, March 30, 2012 |

Each piece must include the following info on the back: Student's full name, school name, grade, and teacher's name
The art can be in a variety of forms from painting to drawing, batik to sculpture.
The top 10 entries will be chosen by visitors to Swan Haven in April. Winners receive great prizes and their art will be displayed at the Canada Games Centre during the month of May.
