Climate Change and Youth
The Climate Change Secretariat encourages youth engagement on climate change issues and solutions by:
- Delivering climate change education and outreach opportunities for youth.
- Promoting leadership development for youth to take action on climate change issues
- Encouraging realistic feedback to government in order to effect positive change relevant to youth

Youth Engagement Forums
Creating Balance in our Changing Climate
Environment Yukon and partners will be hosting the Northern Forum’s Youth Eco Forum in Whitehorse in August 2012. This year’s theme is “Creating Balance in our Changing Climate”.
Climate Change Youth Video
BYTE (Bringing Youth Towards Equality) and the Climate Change Secretariat partnered in 2011 to get youth input on climate change actions in Yukon. BYTE's community outreach efforts included:
- Seeking youth opinions on climate change action,
- Delivering educational climate change workshops, and
- Creating a video to get youth voices heard! The video will be ready in Spring 2012.
"Yukon Youth Outside the Box" Forums
Environment Yukon and the Climate Change Secretariat hosted Yukon Youth Outside the Box forums from 2007-2010. These forums aimed to empower youth, build capacity, build community, educate about climate change, and connect policy, policy makers and Yukon youth.
Youth Leadership
Internships 2011
The Climate Change Secretariat works to create inclusive, engaging learning opportunities for youth through our summer internship program. We hired two exceptional youth this summer as Research and Policy Assistants.
Outreach
Environment Fair 2011
Our climate change bathtub outreach booth helped explain how greenhouse gasses are entering our atmosphere, that the number of greenhouse gasses is increasing, and that we can all do our part.
Climate Change Secretariat Greenhouse
Y2C2 youth constructed a greenhouse for the Climate Change Secretariat entirely out of found and recycled materials, mostly pop bottles donated by Raven Recycling and old bicycle tubes donated by Cadence Bicycles. We hope to use the greenhouse to grow veggies for our 2012 Youth Eco Forum.
