Important Changes for 2011 - 2012
Hunting from the shoulder
It is unlawful to discharge a firearm on or across the traveled portion which includes the shoulder of a public road or highway. This is an expansion to the definition.
Use of snowmobiles for hunting in GMS 5–34 and 5–36 to 5–39
In GMS 5-34 and 5-36 to 5-39, the use of a snowmobile is permitted only for the purpose of hunting or transporting bison during the bison season. No other species may be hunted or transported by snowmobile at any time.
Porcupine Caribou Bag Limit
The bag limit is two bulls per licenced hunter. The Yukon government changed the bag limit July 6, 2011 to reflect its obligations under the new Harvest Management Plan for the Porcupine Caribou Herd. NOTE: The territory-wide bag limit remains unchanged at two caribou. Refer to page 61 of the Hunting Regulations Summary for map and details.
Proposed Changes to the Wildlife Act Regulations
Several regulation proposals went to public consultation in the fall of 2010. These were reviewed by the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board and some received support. New regulations will be drafted for implementation in 2012.
