Bison Hunt
Yukon Government Photo
The bison hunt seasons are:
- Sept. 1, 2011 through March 31, 2012 – Extended Season Area
- Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2011 and Feb. 15 to Mar. 31, 2012 – Bison Management Area
Detailed maps are available for purchase at Environment Yukon offices or online for free from the Environment Yukon website.
There is one change to the bison hunt rules for 2011/12 from 2010/11: You must obtain permission in advance from both the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations AND the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation if you plan to hunt bison on their Settlement Lands.
You must obtain a hunting licence, Wood Bison Permit and bison seal before heading out. The bag limit is still one animal (male or female). Hunters must obtain permission to hunt within 1 km of a dwelling, even if it is unoccupied.
All hunters must:
- Report their kill to Environment Yukon within 72 hours, and
- Submit the incisor bar within 15 days after the end of the month in which the bison was killed
For more information on reporting details, please refer to pages 14 and 47 of the Yukon Hunting Regulations 2011/12.
