Guided Trapping

Trapping concession holders may offer non-trappers the opportunity to experience trapping under a Guided Trapping Permit. (All permittees trapping activities must be done under the concession holder’s direct supervision. Assistant trappers are not eligible to apply for a Guided Trapping Permit nor supervise a Permittee.)

Requirements

If you want to offer guided trapping excursions on your trapping concession you must meet all the requirements under the both Wildlife Act and the Wilderness Tourism Licensing Act. These include having the appropriate licences, liability insurance and First Aid training.

The concession holder must apply in person, at an Environment Yukon office for a Guided Trapping Permit. The concession holder must present their trapping licence, wilderness tourism licence and First Aid certificate at that time. The prospective permittee’s presence is desired, but not required when the permit is issued. The permit is not valid until it is signed by the permittee.

A concession holder may have up to two permittees under their supervision at any one time. Permits are valid for a maximum of two weeks.

Any fur harvested under a Guided Trapping Permit is the property of the concession holder. All trapping activity must be in accordance with the Wildlife Act and regulations.
