Bison Hunt

Bison hunt seasons:

Extended Season Area September 1 - March 31
Bison Management Area November 1 - December 31
February 15 - March 31


Detailed maps are available for purchase at Environment Yukon offices or online for free below. A bison seal costs $10.

GMS 5-36, 5-38, 5-39, 5-41, 5-44, 5-46, 5-47, 5-49 and 5-50 are now open for bison hunting Jan. 1 through Feb. 14. See map or view YG news release for details.

You must obtain permission in advance from the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations and/or the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation if you would like to hunt bison on their Settlement Lands. (Champagne and Aishihik First Nations notice of area closure.)

You must obtain a hunting licence, Wood Bison Permit and bison seal before heading out. The bag limit is still one animal (male or female). Hunters must obtain permission to hunt within 1 km of a residence, even if it is unoccupied.
