Physical Characteristics
- Bull trout have long been confused with Dolly Varden, although we now know that they are a distinct species.
- They are very similar in appearance to the Dolly Varden and can only be distinguished by a few subtle differences; bull trout have a larger, more flattened head and a larger mouth than Dolly Varden, and spots on their back are more widely spaced.
Habitat and Feeding
- Bull Trout also occupy different geographic ranges than the Dolly Varden, making location the easiest way to distinguish between the two.
- If found in the Liard drainage these fish are likely Bull trout, while those found elsewhere in the Yukon are likely Dolly Varden.
