Backcountry Camping in Tombstone Park
Divide Lake Cook Platform / Yukon Government Photo
Camping Permits for Grizzly, Divide and Talus Lakes
From June 15 to September 15, overnight camping reservations and permits are required to camp at Grizzly, Divide & Talus Lake backcountry camp sites. Early reservations are recommended to ensure availability.
Backcountry campgrounds offer tent pads, an outhouse and a small cooking platform. There are 10 tent pads at each lake.
Backcountry Camping Reservations
Reservations can be made for 6 of the backcountry tent pads each day. The remaining 4 can be booked in-person at the Tombstone Interpretive Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Camping off the tent pads at these sites is not permitted.
Impacts to the Park
Visitor numbers to Tombstone Territorial Park have steadily increased which in turn increased stress on the natural resources at the lakes in the backcountry. Crowded campsites were also affecting visitor satisfaction. The backcountry camping permit and registration system helps reduce impacts on the natural and cultural resources of these vulnerable backcountry areas while enhancing visitor experiences in the park.
