In the North, children playing outdoors and exploring their surroundings – even near home – can be at risk of encountering a bear. It is important to educate children to be “Bear Aware” and to understand what to do if they encounter a bear.

Let’s all be bear aware. Here’s how…

  1. Never feed bears
  2. Report bears that hang around people or get into garbage.
  3. Never get too close to bears.
  4. Hike in groups and make noise so you don’t surprise a bear.Keep a clean camping spot.
  5. Never explore bad smelling areas and never play near garbage dumps.
  6. Learn more about bears.
