Rules and safety at campgrounds and recreation sites

For everyone’s safety and enjoyment, follow these rules.

Use

• In 2024, you will be able to reserve a campsite in four road-accessible (frontcountry) campgrounds. Learn more about campsite reservations. 
• Most campsites remain as first-come, first-served. You cannot register or hold these sites for people who are not present.
• Register all campsite use, day or night, year-round. Review rates, permits and how to register. 
• Camp, park and drive only in designated areas.
• You cannot camp overnight at day-use areas and recreation sites.
• You can only stay 14 nights in one campground in any 30-day period.
• You cannot leave your campsite unoccupied for more than 24 hours.
• Quiet hours are from 11 pm to 7 am. Limit use of generators and other noise at all times.
• You may sleep:
  • 8 people per regular site;
  • 5 people per tenting-only site; and
  • 12 people per group site.
• You can host more people on a site during the day.

Wildlife

• Never feed or disturb wild animals.
• You must store wildlife attractants inside a hard-sided vehicle, trailer, bear-proof canister or locker at night and when you’re away during the day, even for short periods.
• Do not bring food or other attractants into a tent. Attractants include coolers, pots, utensils, dish cloths, food, beverages, toiletries, pet food, garbage, gas cans, bug spray, recyclables and anything that may attract wildlife.
• Park staff may remove and secure unattended wildlife attractants if they are not stored correctly. An enforcement action may follow.
• Put garbage and recycling in bear-proof bins or pack it out with you.
• Review the fishing rules for the body of water where you'll fish. There may be special regulations.
• Practise bear safety, leave no trace and wildlife viewing ethics.

Motorized vehicles and aircraft

• Stay on roads and established trails.
• To operate an ATV, you must follow the Yukon's ATV rules. These include having your registration, insurance, licence and a helmet.
• To use an aircraft or drone, you must get a park permit and follow Transport Canada rules.

Campfires

• Use firewood responsibly. Take only what you need.
• Use existing fire pits, keep campfires small and thoroughly extinguish unattended fires, including at night.
• You cannot remove firewood from a campground.

Pets

• Keep your pets leashed.
• Pick up your pet’s waste and dispose of it in the bins provided.

Water

• Use caution at all times on and around water.
• Early season melt can cause water levels to rise quickly in small creeks and streams.
• Ice on lakes and around creeks and rivers can be extremely dangerous during early season camping.
• Treat or boil all water for 1 minute before you consume it, including water provided via hand pumps and tanks.

Waste

• There are no dump stations for RV liquid waste at our campgrounds. Dump your waste at these locations.
• Dump grey water into outhouse holes or broadcast. Dispose of filtered food in waste bins provided. Dumping in fire pits creates a wildlife attractant.
• During the unserviced season, bring your own toilet paper and firewood, and pack out all garbage.

Firearms

• Leave firearms packed away.
• You cannot discharge a firearm in or near a campground or recreation site.

Emergencies and suspicious activities

• Report suspicious activities or disturbances to park officers at 867-456-3974 or the RCMP at 867-667-5555.
• Report wildfires to 1-888-789-FIRE (3473).
• Report wildlife, fishing and environmental violations to the TIPP line, 1-800-661-0525.
