Deputy Conservation Officer Program

The Conservation Officer Program allows private citizens to actively participate in a variety of Conservation Officer field duties, and provides assistance to field staff, when needed. The program provides a practical forum for information and education exchange between Conservation Officers and members of the public.
Environment Yukon provides training and travel expenses to volunteers. Deputy Conservation Officers are not intended to serve as additional Conservation Officers or to conduct enforcement duties independently.
Eligibility
- open to persons 19 years or older
- valid Firearms Possession and Acquisition License
- valid Yukon driver’s licence
- security check
Selection
The selection of Deputy Conservation Officers is limited to those numbers which can be utilized efficiently by each District Conservation Officer. Commitments by both parties are required for the program’s success. Applications are assessed based on the needs and requirements identified by the District Conservation Officer as well as the suitability of the applicant. Criteria for selection may include:
- availability for duty
- training/experience/education
- interest
- knowledge of area
- other personal attributes
