Description

Behaviour

Chipmunks are strictly diurnal spending most of their days in a hectic foraging state. They spend summer from April to October collecting food and storing it in their burrows for the long winter.  They don’t hibernate but instead enter torpor (deep sleep) where their metabolic rate drops and they are able to arouse periodically to feed on stored food supplies.

Diet

Berry seeds, rosehips, grasses, sedges, insects, eggs, occasionally nestlings.
